Writing and the ugly parts

March has been one for the books, probably not a great book, but a book nonetheless. There were highs and lows muddled with screaming and crying (I’m talking about me, not the kids). However, they’ve had their fair share of crap days.

I’m convinced they smell my weakness, like the raptors on Jurassic Park. The smallest one, especially, knows how to kick me when I’m down. Now, I’m not complaining. Okay, yeah I am. But do not come for me with that “You’ll miss this one day bull$^*+. I know I will, but moms are allowed to get sick of it, and if you think otherwise… this probably isn’t the best newsletter for you.

Likewise, if you’re rolling your eyes and thinking I should just get a real job and send them to daycare… probably not the right place either, not that there’s anything wrong with that. But I know I’m lucky to get to do this.

Would I be creating, thriving, and loving this life as a writer if I had to work another job? No. There are not enough hours in the day for me. I’m blessed I get to do this, just like I’m blessed to homeschool. But even the most successful CEOs are allowed to feel tired and no one faults them for it.

Now, onto business… if you’ve been following along with my writing, you probably know I have two ongoing serials. If you haven’t, go read Stix and Serial Fiction. I mean seriously, what are you even doing with all the hours in the day??? I’m kidding… sort of.

To be frank, I’m extremely proud of what I’ve done on Kindle Vella. I’m not claiming to be a bestseller or the next big thing, but I’m creating and gaining traction while making money. Those are huge feats for any creative.

I’ve also had the privilege of being included in Our Galaxy Publishing’s Venus Rising anthology. If you’re more into non-fiction or motherhood musings, go check that one out. You won’t find monsters in the forest, but it’s worth a read.

And that’s the news!

If you’re just jumping in with me, be sure to check out Kindle Vella. Every story offers 3 free episodes and new users are rewarded with free tokens from Amazon. That’s a good bit of free reading if you ask me. When you read Kindle Vella, remember you’re supporting indie authors and those of us chugging along without backing from a traditional publisher.

And if you’ve already checked out my weird tales, please, please, please consider leaving a review! Reviews help authors get new eyes on their work. New eyes = more attention from the algorithm and so on. So, share this with your reader friends, your not-reader friends, and friends that just like the idea of supporting Appalachian artists.

Every click counts people, and I appreciate every single one ❤️❤️❤️
